its finally here though, nearly a year in the making: Luceo Images.

Luceo Images is a collection of photographers creating a space for fresh visual narratives. Luceo offers documentary, portraiture, and commercial photography as well as new media production on an assignment basis. Our photographers attempt to push the bounds of traditional imagery both in our personal and assignment work. We are based around the US as well as Southeast Asia and Mexico.

"whats with today, today?"
we are in philly right now after a good night at johnny brenda's. its a gorgeous venue even if i couldnt shoot any pictures in the specially painted 'green room.' we passed the halfway mark of the tour a couple days ago. 12 past and 9 left. where does this time thing go? you get into a little routine on the road: stay up late, sleep till check out, lunch, drive to next venue. it seems like most of my down time is spent in the car. this leg of the tour is a little less stressed as the first week, well the drives are a bit less time consuming. tomorrow we are going to nyc for the first of two shows there. i can only assume we will make a trip to the my favorite bar in manhattan: McSorley's. its on 3rd ave and 7th street and the last time i was there beer was 2 for $3.50. its been a while. actually its been since i went to school up there 6 years ago. i cant say how much i miss living in a big city, looking forward to having a day off up there.

i realize i havnt introduced british sea power yet. they rock. and they are headlining this tour. check out their music if you get a chance.

little did I know that he was talking about the portrait of Carl
Perkins outside the rest stop bathroom (see next photo). apparently he
wrote a little song called Blue Suede Shoes. maybe you heard of it?

all over Tennessee there are pictures of the greats in the rest stops.
funny way to honor music's best but at least you know the people who
matter --the people who tour through tenn.-- see their faces as they
make one of many bathroom breaks.

1. our "tour bus". Ivan does his best to look cool next to our "tour
bus" at one of the many daily rest stop bathroom breaks. but really,
how cool can you look at abrest stop?
2. matt. a drummer, roommate, comedian, partner in beer drinking, and
apparently a dreamer of those late night 'call now' commercials.
3. its nice light. no explination needed.
4. matt and I drinking a beer at mojos. we also ate some awesome curry
chicken from mojos that night. made the fork neon yellow, and my face,
but it was excellent.
5. the bathrooms at the clubs are some of the best worst bathrooms
ever. fun to look at but not too good for the people on tour. I mean
we'd actually like to use it and stuff, which makes them annoying when
there isnt a backstage bathroom.
6. the back of the van.
7. it got cold all of a sudden in Columbia.
8. we <3 yo la tengo

today we are driving to ashville, nc for day 7 of the tour. 7 days. 7
cities. 7 hotels rooms. it'll be nice to be back in our home state
again even for just a couple days. tomorrow we have a day off and in
not sure what I'll be doing with my time. its like my days off when I
was interning in Michigan or new hampshire, I would have rather been
working. but it will be nice to be home and recharge before setting
out for weeks two and three of the tour.

worst drive ever.
we kept hearing about tornado warnings for most of Tennessee. it was
rainy like mess for most of the drive and at some point we checked our
location in comparison to the tornados we were hearing about. little
did we know that we were heading strait for it, but we were a half
hour behind it. so it wasn't a problem. this is Kelly trying to make a
picture of the lightning, which her blackberry failed misserably.

these two were great. they danced for every song and would reach into
the crowd grabbing more people to dance. seemed like something I would
do. and then I did later when Kelly and Ivan asked people to dance on
stage with them. and if you missed the memo, dancing is fun at music

today was a short* 3 hour+ trip to indianapolis, in. this could be the first time i ever made it to indiana and id have to say indy was cool. who would have thought?
the first picture is before recording for the old kentucky blog radio show on sirius radio. the best part was the 7 dogs running over from across the backyard to bark at us for a while. they did get friendly, so i sat on the ground and let the dogs get their face lick on. when you're on the road you have to take these moments whenever you can get them.

its funny. chicago was last night but it feels so far away from where we are today. things move quickly on tour and this makes chicago feel like last week. and as kelly said: i cant even remember what we were doing yesterday or where we were. its hard figure out. time goes by much quicker but much slower. which makes me excited. its been three days but could easily have been three weeks. funny thing, this tour time.

as you may have noticed a few posts back, we went to sultan's market for falafels. and im not going to lie to you. i started talking about sultan's falafels last week. i ate two. and for the record, they were better than i had expected.

so far this trip has been all about driving. 7.5 hours to Lexington,

good band which means we only listen to good music and sing along to

wonderful].

and so its happening. we are on the "tour bus" headed to the first show of the rosebuds three week tour in lexington, ky. 315 miles down, 150 to go. im pretty stoked about being on the road for the next few weeks and seeing this half of america. and even more stoked about photographing for a while, so check back for regular updates.

its no secret, no matter what i keep telling myself.
the past few months i took a break from photos.

i feel weird even saying that, and if any of you know me you also know how hard it is to actually say/admit it. but its been a good break. i have been working a lot and trying to invest in my future, as well as the future of newspapers and magazines as they continue their never ending quest to find higher profits and find more readers. im talking about tapping the printing press called the web, and actually using my computer science degree (wow i just admitted that too, please dont think that im too much of a geek). there's some good discussion on this over at aphotoeditor.com. I have some things up my sleeve that i guess ill share with everyone soon enough (or if you email me, i might give you a sneak peek in exchange for feedback).

investing. thats what i have to keep telling myself when i sit in front of this computer for 12 hours a day drinking 2-6 cups of coffee instead of going out and telling the stories i wish so much to be telling. as i said above, its been a good break, and somehow i feel like i have grown as much photographically during this time as i did on one of my internships. there's something about being away from the things you love that makes you closer to it and even love it more. its the struggle that lets you know its worth it.

maybe its the fact i am only shooting what i want and what i love that has brought me closer to photography. nearly everything i have shot this year has been self assigned and i've somewhat used them as a way to be social. just like the photos up there as i make a picture dancing with good friends and then steal someone else's polaroid flash.

so sorry photography, but thanks.

its january 16th and this is the first time i really picked up the camera this year. been cooped up in coffee shops making some good things in flash. its nice to use my camera as a way to experience life again, instead of just documenting whats around me. i like to think hiding behind a camera makes me more social, contrary to what my brother thinks.

things have been changing here at the tim lytvinenko camp. websites have become the main money source and the shooting time has gone down more than i would like to admit (i mean really the n&o pays out $75 + $0.00 mileage and they were the most reliable editorial work for me, i dont know if that even counts as beer money). partly because of my boss mentality, yes i am my own boss, and the boss likes me to stay on task for the things that pay money. because i feel terribly unproductive if i dont. whether or not thats the best idea for good productivity, im not sure, but im working on it [note to self: hire team of analysts to make me more productive].

anyway.
making money is good. society tells us thats what we are here on this earth for right? man, its good to feel purpose. cameras have purpose -- i read the owners manual. you press this button here and then the camera fulfills its purpose! click click. it takes a picture of anything. point, shoot, picture... thats right! that is the camera's purpose, and by camera i mean extension of myself.

but i forget this sometimes. the joy of shooting. the idea of capturing. making. doing. living. documenting. and its people like channing johnson that makes me remember this. the very man that i set up a blog for almost two years ago after convincing me to get an internship at his paper before leaving two days after i get there.

so go to his blog,

i should have never left you.

its been a while and i think most of the loyal rss feeders have probably quit on me. thanks mom and my brother victor. i thought even you wouldnt have given up on me.

but now that you are here let me tell you about a few new things on my blog:
1. pictures. yes this is a photoblog but i will have my normal rants and raves and everything i miss that blogger did well.
2. my shared google reader. i think this is the coolest. i press share while looking at an rss feed and BOOM its in that box to the right. this way you can see my favorite photos, or my favorite quotes, or something else thats cool. i heart google...
3. websites. i make websites and there should be links to my work. go and see them. Go NOW!
4. movies. my favorite movies will be updated every month with what i think is awesome at the time. some may stay there for a while and some may only show up for a minute. but the idea is to keep my list in mind and try to watch them every month. because if i watch them every month then i feel like i will be a better person b/c certain ideas will be floating around me more than if i dont take the time out to watch them.
5. thoughts. ok this isnt new. but i miss being able to write what i want quickly and easily (see blogger you have a use). i miss it because im trying to be less guarded on what i think and feel and i would like to put myself "out there" more often like i used to. but dont get me wrong, i will be updating the other flash blog often and ill let you know one way or another. i like that the other one is just pictures and designed the way i like it. but this blogger one will give me a chance to display things in a different way.
6. ok ok... on to some pictures!!

maybe you dont know it yet but you will be wearing victor's handmade jeans real soon. i know i do. also, maybe you dont know it yet but its a fact, my brother quite possible is the coolest. fact.

30 Day challenge

last month, feb. 6 to be exact, ray and i played a little game called 'the 30 day challenge'. original name, i know. the rules were simple: a new picture everyday, for 30 days. the idea is to promote self assigned projects and give a little dose of inspiration every day. it went well. here are some of the goods from the challenge.

(crap i got to wait another 141 days...)

the other day i was complaining about photo contests to my mom. i was telling all of my unoriginal ideas of why certain pictures are better than others.
"well you see mom," i began. "this picture has 12 dead bodies in it, so that beats most pictures with fewer than 8 dead bodies. unless there is a non-american screaming, mind you we dont know his name or his story because the photographer didnt care enough to speak to him, with some sort of 'city in ruins' looking background. (go here: PDN) you see its all a checklist now." (seriously: PDN predicts the winners.
then i explained that i dont shoot enough pictures of dead bodies so i dont enter contests too much.
she look puzzled and then said something that give me hope, hope in our world, in man.
"maybe you can enter your pictures of good things into these contests. then maybe you could change the winning pictures and in turn change the idea of what a good photo is."

what? me? ok probably not me but you get the idea.
i believe pictures can change minds, wars, races, lives and perspectives. you have the shock value of 12 dead bodies and think "oh shit... something bad is happening over there. i should go fill up my hummer..." and then the next time you see 12 dead bodies in a photo its only, only 12 dead bodies. there is no shock value in that anymore. dont get me wrong we need to be keeping tabs on what our military is and isnt doing. but it could be dont better. see: andrea bruce's iraq work. this is a real story that i can feel and understand. 12 dead bodies feels like a terminator movie, i cant relate to seeing and feeling that kind of loss.
the other idea of changing people is using the forces of good. these are as powerful but are rarely seen as equals in the 'photo contest world' because humor isnt a valid emotion or feeling. (sidenote: judge in the middle you know you love this picture and it just made your day. this one picture made judging 10,000 images worthwhile and you are having fun, even smiling, for the first time in 8 hours. so why do you fight so hard for it to be out? quit being so emo...) but i have this theory about spreading good and helping each other. i so something small --smile, laugh, help, complement, be patient-- and then that person is happier and in turn shares his/her good feelings with the world one way or another.
i think this can be applied to photography. see: Danny Wilcox Frazier, blue eyes magazine, teen life, oculi, yay they are getting the idea.
good people doing good things. im going to go make someone's day.

yoon came into town the other day for a birthday celebration. there was beer, bowling and two different birthdays being celebrated. it was great hanging out but it also is a reminder of the abrupt end of my internship. he is taking my job, thanks yoon, but im not holding it against him. just a few more weeks. its like pouring a shot into a beer glass. doesnt look like much but you know its going to be fun.

anyway. who knew yoon was a candle pin bowling shark. i think he beat everyone by 25 points.

channing and i met up for some of the best egg sandwiches in the world, ddr and some picture looking as well. one of the things i miss most from home is gathering at a cup-a-joe and inspiring each other. we talked about shooting fun personal essays and channing argued those pictures should be in the portfolio without having to set aside a 'this is how i see' essay. i argued showing diversity and now i feel i shouldnt have. our personal pictures should shine through our daily work, somewhat shooting yourself instead of the assignment.

"is this the kind of light you were talking about having to shoot?" he said excitedly at the same time lining up a self portrait.
"yes," i said.
